Microsoft Launches Office for iPad



Microsoft officially announced Microsoft Office for iPad on Thursday, March 27, 2014, pushing Microsoft’s office suite onto the most popular tablet in the market.

New Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella took the stage for the first time at a press event in San Francisco, saying Microsoft wanted to ”empower people to be productive and do more across all devices.. Office 365 will be everywhere from here on out.”

Today marks the "beginning of exploration for us," Nadella said in his opening remarks.

Microsoft Word for iPad, Excel for iPad, and PowerPoint for iPad will all be free to download from the iTunes App Store, executives said. However, users will be only able to view existing documents. To enable create, modify documents, Microsoft will ask users to sign up for an Office 365 $9.99 subscription per month for Office 365 Home Premium and $6.99 per month for the upcoming Personal plan.

Research firm Gartner predicts about 271 million tablets will be shipped in 2014 and Apple's iPad is currently the bestselling model.
