Facebook and Google Dominate US Mobile Ad Industry

US mobile advertising is certainly being dominated by two giants, Facebook and Google. eMarketer report describes that the two companies now control 66.8% of the U.S. mobile ad market.

Facebook, having more than three times its share of the market from 2012 to 2013, is about to monopolize the growth in the global mobile ad industry while Google remains the dominant force having under half of the mobile ad market.

On the other hand, Twitter is the only major player other than Facebook to post an increase in its share of the mobile ad market from 1.5% to 2.4%.

The social network's ability to quickly turn around from being a desktop-focused product to being the second-largest player has sent shares in the company of more than 150% in the past year. The income has also provided the opportunity to acquire the $16 billion worth WhatsApp, another major mobile player.

It can be noted however, that big companies such as Microsoft, Yahoo and AOL are missing in the eMarketer's study of global mobile ad share. Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer is very vocal about the company has to make inroads in the mobile market. Meanwhile AOL is now heavily investing in another fast-growing market in the digital ad industry, the online video advertising.
