Abi Alton was voted off the X Factor by majority vote tonight after judge Nicole Scherzinger said: "I refuse to choose between my girls".

Alton found herself in the bottom two alongside Hannah Barrett.  She took on Ed Sheeran's 'Lego House' in the sing-off, while Barrett performed Miley Cyrus's recent hit 'Wrecking Ball.

Judge Gary Barlow admitted he was surprised by the public's choice, saying he was "confused". He added: "I don't know how these singers are ending up in the bottom two". Before voting off Alton, Barlow praised her: "Abi, I have loved your performances but tonight you touched me emotionally for the first time." He added: "Hannah - don't change anything you are brilliant just as you are."

Sharon Osbourne said she would also be sending Alton home, adding that it was "frustrating" that "now you show us your passion". She told to Abi,  "You are a talented singer-song writer. I haven't seen you this passionate since the auditions."

Louis Walsh revealed that he would also have chosen to save Barrett and send Alton home.

When asked to speak, Alton said: "I never in a million and one years thought that I would get this far. I've had the time of my life. I've met the most amazing people. I would never change it so thank you." Host Dermot O'Leary praised Alton as "so unique, so original".

Kingsland Road judges comments:

Gary Barlow commented, they are so serious, so ambitious and I am so proud of what you’ve done this week. You don’t just do a song, you put on a show for everyone. Sharon Osbourne says, do take that look off your face because it shows. I still think you have to work on your vocals but I hope you’re here for a few more weeks said Louis Walsh. While
Nicole Scherzinger voiced out: I just wanted you to let go, the problem for me is that you come out a little too planned, too perfect. Break free a little bit more.
