Apple’s iPad continuously dominates U.S. sales on personal computing devices and recent data provided by the NPD Group shows that iPad and iPad mini combined considerably outsold both Android and Windows-powered tablets this 2013.

According to the data, the 9.7-inch iPad and the iPad mini combined accounted for 15.8% of the total number of personal computing devices sold between the months of January and November 2013. Though this figure is lesser than the iPad’s share in 2012’s sales of 17.1%, it’s still higher than the shares attributed to both Android- and Windows-powered tablets which accounted 8.7% and 2.2%, respectively. Also, tablet sales accounted more than 22% of all personal computing device sales sold through the commercial channel until November 2013. Windows tablet sales nearly tripled off a very small base, and Android tablet sales grew more than 160%. Apple iPad sales accounted for 59% of the volume in the tablet market.

NPD’s Vice-President Stephen Baker said,“New products like Chromebooks and reimagined items like Windows tablets are now supplementing the revitalization that iPads started in personal-computing devices. It is no accident that we are seeing the fruits of this change in the commercial markets, as business and institutional buyers exploit the flexibility inherent in the new range of choices now open to them.”

Notably, Apple’s iPad and its MacBook notebooks have been revitalized. The iPad Air has now an enhanced processor and a slimmer form factor, while the iPad mini finally got its long-anticipated Retina display. Similarly, Apple’s new MacBook Pro notebooks are made thinner, lighter and faster.
