Beyonce, the singing superstar surprised shoppers at a Walmart store in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, Friday, December 20.

US Weekly reports that just 24 hours past her New York show and album release, the 32-year-old singer dressed in an aqua twin set and black leather jacket was spotted pushing her own shopping trolley down the Walmart shopping aisles and picked some toys for her 23-month-old daughter Blue Ivy. The singer even got a copy of her own album “Beyonce” that went on sale that day, a week after its iTunes release.

And here’s the surprise, the singer got into the Christmas spirit by greeting the shoppers through the Walmart’s loudspeaker. Following Beyonce’s greeting was an early Christmas gift for each shopper around. Beyonce gave each shopper a $50 Walmart gift card enclosed in an envelope with a note that reads, “Happy Holidays from Beyonce.”

A total of 750 gift cards were given away which means that Beyonce has spent $37,500 for the cards alone. This really is a huge surprise from Beyonce. Lucky shoppers!

Tens of millions of Black Friday bargain hunters poured into major retailers including Walmart across the country. So far, reports say that this year, the nation's mega-shopping weekend is less frenzy while online shopping somehow has diffused crowds.

Walmart Black Friday

More than a dozen major stores opened on Thanksgiving Day and stayed open through Black Friday. But online shops such as eBay and Amazon were reported to have significant increase in Thanksgiving and Black Friday sales compared to last year. This means that Americans prefer online purchases probably to refrain from retail mob scenes.

Though Black Friday turned out to be generally less frenzy this year because of online shopping, check the scene at Walmart while shoppers go crazy over television sets on sale.

Walmart Black Friday Deals

Days before the Thanksgiving, Black Friday retail war has already started brewing at Walmart as the nation’s superstore matches some of Target and Best Buy’s top Black Friday deals.

“That’s insane,” Stan Pohmer, a Twin Cities retail analyst, said of Walmart’s overt taunting of Target and Best Buy, among others. “They’re going after the other big guys. They’re taking the fight to them.” Though shoppers might cheer bigger and juicier deals, and it could dilute their passion for Black Friday, that modern day-after-Thanksgiving tradition, which now kicks off ever earlier Thanksgiving night.

“Obviously, we are watching developments on a day-by-day basis,” Best Buy CEO Hubert Joly told analysts, hinting that the electronics giant is preparing to respond.
“We need to be in the game, so that’s what we’re going to do,” Joly said, as he discussed Best Buy’s third-quarter results.

Pohmer said Target can’t ignore the Black Friday price war. “They have to make at least a token response. But if (Walmart) is doing this … Friday and Saturday, it doesn't give them a lot of time to respond.”

With the recent Apple product launches, Walmart announced last week about its $20 discount offering on Apple’s new entry-level 16GB iPad Air starting November 1. And it’s now confirmed that both Apple and Best Buy will match the $479 deal in their retail stores. Staples is also joining the iPad Air discount as shown in its website with the device price listing of $479.

    Apple iPad Air

Though, Apple and Best Buy are still charging the same suggested $499 price tag for the entry iPad Air through their online stores.  So, to avail of the $20 discount, you need to visit the nearest Apple and Best Buy stores. Plus, you have to show proof of the lower price from a retailer that is eligible for price match, and in this case, Walmart price is acceptable or any ad will be accepted also.

In the case of RadioShack, the store won’t take part on the price reduction and won't be matching the $479 deal. Instead, it will sell the iPad Air for Apple’s suggested price of $499. However, the store will have this ease trade-in values for old iPads and the new $299 iPad mini.

While most Apple Stores in the U.S. are expected to have a significant amount of supply, the company is more likely to hold back a certain amount of inventory in at least some stores to ensure enough stock for personal pick-up and customers arriving especially for this discount.

Meanwhile, the iPad Air is currently shipping in some countries including Australia and many other countries in Asia. Reports say that the device is already sold out in some countries such as Hongkong. All models of the device are expected to ship in the US not later than November 4.
