The local weather bureau PAGASA said Tropical Depression Agaton was 165 km northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur at 4 p.m. today and is still forecast to move west at 5 kph.
Its maximum winds remain at 55 kph near the center. It is expected to make landfall in Surigao Del Sur Saturday afternoon or evening. It will then move to the SOCCSKSARGEN region on Sunday.
Public storm warning signal no. 1 was raised in Southern Leyte, Surigao del Norte—including Siargao Island—Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Province, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Davao Oriental, and Compostella Valley.
Caraga Region, Davao Del Norte, Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, and Southern Leyte will have rains with gusty winds and moderate to rough seas, PAGASA said in its 5 p.m. weather forecast.
A gale warning was raised in the seaboard of Caraga region with waves expected to reach at least 4 meters high.

As of 5 a.m., January 18, 2014 it was spotted 170 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur or 175 kilometers east of Surigao City.
It was still packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center.
Signal number 1 remains hoisted over Southern Leyte, Surigao del Norte including Siargao Islands, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Province, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Davao Oriental, and Compostela Valley. PAGASA said these areas will experience 30 to 60 kph winds in 36 hours.
