An anonymous man has been journeying restaurants in the United States leaving up to $10,000 tip for the waiters who served him.
Each receipt is marked with @tipsforjesus next to an illegible signature sometimes alongside the words “God bless”.
The mystery tipster also takes pictures of servers who were so happy and surprised upon seeing the receipt with the tip, and uploads them to an Instagram account – Tips for Jesus - that has reached more than 54,000 followers as of posting time. He also has a Twitter account with almost 6,000 followers but no tweets.
Both feeds has a tagline of “Doing the Lord’s work, one tip at a time”.
The Instagram account has photographs of waiters from restaurants in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Phoenix and Ann Arbor, Mich.
The tipster has been leaving smiles in restaurants from coast to coast and even in Mexico, with a tip worth $10,000 all charged to American Express.
The latest adventure of the mystery man has been identified in Seagrape in Fairfield, Connecticut leaving a $5,000 tip for a US $112 bill on Sunday, December 15.
Before that, three Manhattan restaurants were chosen.

A NoMad Hotel waiter got $7,000 tip, another from The Smith restaurant was left with $3,500, and $1000 was given to 25-year old working student Aruj Dahwan working at Bo’s Kitchen and Bar Room.
During that day, Dahwan served 3 customers who ordered a bourbon, a beer, a starter, a pork ragout, and a pork chop. The bill reached $111.05 with $1000 tip.
And before the unnamed man left, he took a picture of the receipt and posted it on Instagram.
In one of the photos on the account, a bartender at Crudo restaurant in Phoenix looks happy glancing at his $2,500 tip.
Micah Olson, the bartender, said a middle-aged man and a woman sat in the bar and drank expensive whiskey that cost $70 per ounce.
"They sat at the bar and had 5 ounces total," Olson said. "The guy was really cool and bought me two ounces."
The bill came to $530.67 and was charged to an Amex Black Card – an invitation-only card alloted to well-off clients.
"When they left, I saw the tip and I went, 'Wow!'" said Olson, 35. "I hope one of these days, we'll find out who he is."
Hungry Cat restaurant spokeswoman Jannis Swerman said a waiter also received a $1,000 tip after serving three men.
The guessing game keeps on going.
Restaurant servers are posting requests on Instagram providing the exact locations where they wait and asking to be visited by the mystery tipster.
Mystery 'Tips for Jesus' tipper identified in NYC
Last week, ValleyWag.com reported that Jack Selby, a former PayPal VP — who made millions on PayPal's sale to eBay — was behind the big tips.
According to the Post, Bo's manager, Benjamin Cramer, asked Selby why he tipped so much. "He said, 'Just because.' I was told, 'We tip a hundred times the bill.'"
