Snowfall has been recorded for the first time in a century, a snowstorm hit the Middle East on Friday, blanketing Cairo, Jerusalem and areas of Syria in white icy powder.
The snow that has blanketed much of the Middle East turned Cairo white on Friday - with local news reports claiming it was Egypt's capital's first snowfall in 112 years.
Given its desert climate, precipitation of any kind is a rarity in Cairo. The city averages less than an inch of rain each year.
The photos below gathered from Instagram users, showing the snow in northern Egypt, including some from near the Cairo area, Israel and Syria.
