Upon hearing the news that the Central Philippines was excessively damaged by super typhoon Haiyan, New Caledonia-based Filipina Ines Hervè got her heart broken. But it hurt her more knowing that her mother, Rosita, was back in Tanauan, Leyte which is one of the places that was severely washed out by the storm.

Aside from wrecked houses and loss of lives of thousands of people, Yolanda’s heavy wind and rain mixed with the storm surge that resulted in flood in some areas caused lots of trees, electric poles, and telephone companies’ towers to fall down. These brought about loss of all means of communication.
I tried to contact her at once but no success. The following day, I did the same thing - no news. Third day - no news… fourth… fifth. Hervè said on the interview.
Anxious for any news on her mother, Hervè decided to get in touch with the Philippine Red cross in Tacloban City. She was so devastated that she went home to the Philippines to check on her mother and help look for her. Luckily, upon arriving in Manila, she got this very great news that her mother is alive.
So there she went to Leyte, bringing with her packs of relief goods, and found Rosita homeless but still very thankful.
It was really a miracle, that she survived in this disaster. She didn’t have any wound at all. She’s in good health., said Hervè.
After a tearful reunion with her mother, Hervè decided to stay put in the Philippines as a Red Cross volunteer to help the other people in need.
