A total of 50 people including 44 passengers and 6 crews were killed onboard Tatarstan Airlines Boeing 737 on Flight U9-363/2B-363 bound for Kazan. The airplane tried to abort its landing to make a second approach, but unfortunately exploded on hitting the runway of Kazan at about 19:30 Moscow Time (1530 GMT).

Preliminary reports say that Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov ’s son Irek Minnikhanov was confirmed included in the list of the passengers.
Crew error is believed to be one of the possible reasons for the plane crash according to a law enforcement source. Investigators said that weather conditions and a possible technical malfunction may also be to blame. Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the government to establish a commission to investigate the crash. President Putin also expressed condolences to the families of the passengers perished in the crash. Moreso, families and relatives of the crash victims will receive from insurance company Sogaz about 2 million rubles or approximately $61,360 for each killed passenger, a Sogaz official confirmed.

Boeing confirms a technical team will provide technical assistance to the investigation at the request and under the direction of Russia’s investigating authority, the Interstate Aviation Committee. In accordance with the international protocol governing aviation accident investigations, all inquiries about the investigation are all directed to the National Transportation Safety Board.
