Earlier last night, lightning struck the Al Faisaliyah Tower in Riydah, Saudi Arabia. This happened moments before the heavy downpours took place in the entire city causing flash floods which has resulted in terrible traffic congestion.

It looks nothing so alarming happened to the building aside from those sparks from the top of the building lighting up Riyadh skyline. These days, structures especially high- rise buildings are well equipped with surge arresters to protect power distribution and telecommunication systems from high voltage surges caused by lightning strikes. The system arrest surges currents at their point of installation, discharging them to earth so that they bypass critical equipment.
Al Faisaliyah Tower in Riyadh is the third tallest building in the entire Saudi Arabia.
