Jayson Castillo, a Filipino expat in Qatar found a black pouch containing QR50,000 in cash or approximately Php600,000 which he returned to its Qatari owner. Also in the pouch is an iPhone and a cheque worth QR200,000.
The 24-year old receptionist at Al Khor’s Fitness First gym told the local paper that he found the said leather pouch when he passed by a roundabout on his way to work last Tuesday at around 11:30 in the morning.
“First I looked at it for a minute and I was hesitant to pick it up because vehicles drive too fast on this stretch.” Castillo narrates. He immediately called a friend named Joey Angeles and asked for help in locating the owner of the said pouch.
Angeles who is also an overseas Filipino worker in Qatar for 12 years advised Castillo to go to the nearest police station to turn over the items to them which he finally did. Shortly, the Qatari owner came to the station after the police made a call through the mobile phone. The owner thanked Castillo and the police authorities and told them that the cash and the cheque were intended to pay the staff salary at an establishment.
Castillo from Pangasinan, said his parents had taught him to be an honest man despite being poor. “You feel good when you have done something like this.” he uttered.
