Powerful and deadly tornadoes have swept through the states of Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky killing at least six people in Illinois alone. It is feared that hundreds of people may have been injured by this fast-moving storms. Forecasters said that at least 10 states had been at risk. Hailstones have been reported the size of tennis balls.
Prior to this, the National Weather Services reported that, "Numerous fast-moving thunderstorms, capable of producing strong tornadoes along with widespread damaging winds and large hail, will move across portions of the middle Mississippi and Ohio Valley region and the southern Great Lakes region for the remainder of today into this evening."
In Illinois, the Peoria Journal Star reported that dozens are injured and the national guard and rescue teams are on the scene. Illinois Emergency Management Agency Director Jonathon E. Monken told CNN that the storms have killed at least six people in his state and a number of people are feared trapped inside buildings.
The storm was so fast-moving with recorded wind speed of up to 111km/h (68mph). The National Weather Services has already issued warnings for people not to wait until they saw the weather change. The storm is continuously moving fast towards the east.
According to BBC, while the month of November is ordinarily one of the quietest months in the tornado calendar, these tornadoes are considered to be destructive for this time of the year.
